Yarrabank Reserve

Project Overview

Yarrabank Reserve playground is a culturally inspired play space that features characteristics of the City of Boroondara precinct. Located adjacent to a section of the Yarra River, Yarrabank Reserve boasts of significant cultural and heritage listed Indigenous trees. The playspace features a unique six-meter interactive canoe, designed, and installed by civil sculpture play architect, Agency of Sculpture. Together in collaboration with Yellowstone Landscaping, the installation involved footings and ground work. This significant feature draws of the theme of the thriving rowing community of Boroondara.

Reuse, Recycle

Prior to demolition, the existing playground equipment that was removed by the Rotary Club to be recycled and re-constructed overseas in Nepal.  Rather than sending the equipment to landfill, this playground will be used by a Nepalese community.

Overall Improvement

Yarrabank Reserve was a project that improved accessibility and enhanced park amenities. Other features of this playspace include the instalment of shade elements, nature play elements, such as rock and log climbing elements and additional plants and trees to the area. Creative hard landscaping occurred using the array of concrete colours that has a unique design to the surface of the playspace.

Tree Protection Management

With the completion of the project, Yellowstone Landscaping received specification recognition for compliance of the tree protection management plan. Being considerate and respectful of the tree assets on site meant careful planning of works within tree protection zones by preserving roots.
