McAlpin Reserve

Project Overview

The revitalized McAlpin Reserve playground was a highly anticipated playspace refurbishment that the community of Maroondah was longing for. Main aspects of this project is the wide open space and play equipment for all ages and groups. McAlpin Reserve is a key recreational space for the local area and attracts families from outside of the Maroondah region. Partnering with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Yellowstone Landscaping and Maroondah city council set about upgrade and reinvigorating the old play space.

Overall Improvement

The previous playspace was lacking adequate drainage with the previously installed draining resulting in being broken and blocked. Yellowstone Landscaping’s first priority was to ensure that all water from the large site flowed down to the lake and did not remain in the new playground.

The upgraded shelters, decking, picnic areas and quiet zones are coupled harmoniously with creative art elements throughout the park and large play structures to benefits all ages and abilities.  The new scooter track links nicely with the beautiful surrounds of the reserve walking track.

Iconic Orchard

A special historic feature that is incorporated in the playspace is the large fruit sculptures that are displayed on the ground along with rustic styled McAlpin Orchard signs. This theme draws on the history of the land which is situated on an old orchard field.
